BUT HELP IS ON THE WAY
I woke up this morning and turned on the television
I saw people in pain, poverty, crying, dying
Where is this place?
Then I saw babies
The young and old
But help is on the way!
What city, town, and country?
Night after night I watched for days
These people are marginalized
These people are not refugees
These people are my brothers . . . my sisters
No food
No water
No basic hygiene
No shelter for their heads . . . but wait . . . there are some in the Superdome
I see trash, water, dead bodies floating by
I looked at the television again
Where can this be?
Are they family? Friends? Are they my neighbors?
It is the USA, land of the free and home of the brave
You see they had a hurricane, the levy broke
Some escaped
Why did it take so long?
But this is not the Middle East or a war torn country
This is my home
